Start with an exact passage
Use selection rewrite when existing prose needs revision. Select the exact range in your chapter, choose Rewrite on the nearby toolbar, and enter the changes you want in the popover.
For example, ask for dialogue that fits a character’s current attitude, a clearer sequence of actions, or a smoother transition. Check that the selection contains the full passage you want to revise.
Use surrounding text without replacing it
Rewrite uses the preceding text, the selected original and the following text to revise the selection as a whole. Following text helps the transition and should not be repeated in the replacement. A request to improve wording does not itself authorize new story facts.
Rewrite has no Plan step. Review the completed version for voice, viewpoint and factual consistency. To continue the story beyond the selection, place the cursor at the appropriate writing point and use Continue.
Review the complete replacement
With version 1.48, the draft-count button offers one, two or three complete rewrites. Version 1.36 generates one. Browsing drafts leaves your manuscript unchanged; “Choose and replace original” submits acceptance of the selected version.
After successful acceptance, only the original selected range is replaced. Text outside it stays unchanged. If the source manuscript changes during generation, acceptance must still pass the chapter and selection checks.
Check the passage in context
Read the candidate together with the sentences before and after it. Check names, timing, viewpoint and actions. Dialogue edits should not give a character knowledge they do not have or change their attitude without a reason.
If the draft does not solve the problem, reject it and refine the selection or instructions. Rejection preserves the original prose.
