李老栓看着地上的图，嘴唇动了动：“那得挖多长？”
“五六里。”
“五六里？！”李老栓的声音一下子拔高了，“就凭咱家这几口人，挖到明年也挖不完！”
“所以得叫上村里人一起挖。”李林抬起头，看着他爹的眼睛，“爹，赵老三家今天挨了打，明天可能就是咱家。王福来说宽限到秋后，可秋后要是交不上租，咱家的地就没了。没了地，咱们拿什么活？”
李老栓沉默了。
“挖渠引水，是眼下唯一的活路。”李林用柴火棍在地上点了点，“渠挖成了，地就能浇上水。地浇上水，秋后就有收成。有收成，才能交租。这个道理，村里人都懂。只要有人带头，就有人跟着干。”
李林把他爹拉进屋里，关上门。杏儿正在灶台边烧火，锅里煮着一锅野菜糊糊，咕嘟咕嘟冒着泡。李林看了妹妹一眼，压低声音跟他爹说：“爹，我想挖一条渠。”
“挖渠？”李老栓瞪大了眼，“你疯了？石头岗子那边挖不动，你又不是不知道。”
